Something More

“There is something Someone - inside us who tells us there is more to life than sitting in the boat. You were made for something more…There is something inside you that wants to walk on water – to leave the comfort of routine existence and abandon yourself to the high adventure of following God.”

-John Ortberg, If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to get out of the Boat.

I started a six week Bible study five weeks ago. This is the first quote on the first page of the study. It is such a powerful statement of faith and affirmation that there is more to life than the ordinary, simple, rote things we do every day. There is something so appealing about the idea of abandoning myself to the "high adventure" of following God. Who knows where the road will take me and where the path will lead, but the adventure will be worth the destination.

We have all experienced that longing in our hearts at one time or another--the longing for more than the comfort of our lives. That is why we go to school, go on trips to exotic or needy places...it is why we long for a life of challenge and escape into a world where there is meaning behind every action. Somewhere along the way, we lost the desire for the common and found the passion for the signs and miracles all around us.

  1. Hi Emily,
Thanks for posting on my blog! I know it's rotten that I haven't updated in so long. I have an excuse for at least the last week--I'm in Alaska!!!

    It's cold in Alaska.

I was visiting my husband. He travels every week for work and he was in Anchorage for three weeks straight. Since I'm not doing a show at this moment, it worked out well for me to go stay with him there for a week!

"...the longing for more than the comfort of our lives..." I like this phrase a lot. You are very good with words.
