Corporate Sponsors

Okay, I'll be honest. I never really got over the Hoosier Dome becoming the RCA Dome. I was proud of the fact that I marched in the Hoosier Dome for ISSMA State Finals, not the RCA Dome. I felt like it was selling out to suddenly have a corporate name and logo on the building, even as a high school student.

Just for the record, I haven't changed my mind.

It's no secret that there is a new stadium being built in Indianapolis. The new home of the Colts. It's on the news every night it seems. And, up until last night, it had simply been referred to as Indiana Stadium. I liked that. I liked that it wasn't tied to some corporation and it wasn't defined by a product. It was something that was simple, yet had a meaning. That was, until yesterday. Now, it looks like instead of Indiana Stadium, we will have the Lucas Oil Products something or other. Apparently it's a California company with ties to Indiana. Whatever. I know that sponsorship means millions and millions of dollars for the the stadium and the team, but I must say, I'm still disappointed that it has to be named after some obscure Oil Company that I'm guessing most people have never heard of or care about at all.

It's a trend I would happily live without.
